He Ara Mauri Ora

He Ara Mauri ora is a kaupapa Māori, disability-led design project at Te Kinakina - Māori freehold land recently returned to the Tukaki-Morrison whānau.

Guided by tino rangatiratanga and kaitiakitanga, it reimagines a wetlands walkway as a transformative, multi-purpose public space: universally accessible, culturally grounded, and rich in learning and connection to whenua. Co-designed through whānau hui that included whānau hauā (carers) and disability service providers, the project looks beyond minimum standards to create a pathway with rest points, sensory experiences, and places to gather—supporting wellbeing for people of every age and stage.
